Tubist Jeffrey Meyers led a consortium of tuba players and other donors to commission a new work for tuba and piano by noted American composer Alvin Singleton. About “Topless,” the composer indicated that he was thinking of how the tuba is usually at the bottom of an orchestra or wind ensemble, but here, the tubist is free to fly with nothing above, i.e., “Topless!”
To create the companion video, composer, mute maker, trumpet player, and all-around renaissance man Tom Clary worked with Las Cruces artist Louis Ocepek. Please check it out on YouTube!
